According to the hierarchy of controls, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the least effective means of protection from the hazards of electricity. However, sometimes it may be the only means of protection. Unfortunately, even though it may be the least effective means of protection, it can often be the most confusing. Amp Safety has partnered with Oberon Company, the founders of Arc Flash PPE. As a representative organization for Oberon Company, Amp Safety does not sell Oberon Company products. We simply assist our customers in determining what PPE best fits their needs. PPE, if chosen wisely, can be much more cost effective than simply matching ATPV to Incident Energy values or PPE Categories.
Did you know that Oberon Company is the only Arc Flash PPE manufacturer that offers 3 different versions of the standard 40 cal ensemble? What makes one better than the others and why would you choose one over the others? Requesting an absolutely free PPE consultation from Amp Safety is the best way to insure you have considered ALL of the variables when selecting Arc Flash PPE.
Also, don’t forget that there are 3 specific hazards of electricity and the PPE utilized to protect the person in harm’s way require different selection parameters.
PPE CATEGORIES
Always abide by the limits of use and minimum working distance. The following PPE categories are described by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 70E. The greater the electrical hazard, the higher the personal protective equipment arc rating must be to withstand an arc-flash incident. Please note that the following chart is a summary only. For a complete list of NFPA standards see NFPA 70E Table 130.7(C)(16)
